Engineering graphics institute

Engineering graphics institute of DUT was founded in the early 50¡¯s, it is well known more than half a century in China. The good and meticulous teaching style as well as research attitudes have been established in the teaching reform, teaching material construction, and personnel training. Apparently it always keep advancing with the times. In more than 60 years of curriculum construction, lots of achievements in teaching reform, teaching material construction, the laboratory establishment and development, and teachers¡¯ team formation have been obtained. Especially the universally-used textbooks have been created over 50 years, which have been named the most popular and classical textbooks with the title of the Ninth Five-Year Plan, the Tenth Five-Year Plan, the Eleventh Five-Year Plan, and the Twelfth Five-Year Plan due to high quality and strict reedited again and again. Meanwhile the textbook of aiming at the 21st century also has gained high reputation. Additionally, a set of brand new textbook has been published and used in the 2016 next half year, which the graphics cognitive theory and modern design methods have been mixed together in it, and deliver 2D code resources based on Mobile phone APP function, it is attracting more and more students and teachers.

It is honorable to announce Zhang Su-qing, Wei Xiao-peng, and Wang Dan-hong have been members of the engineering graphics course teaching steering committee of the state education commission; Two teacher got the titles of Liaoning provincial teaching masters; Three teachers were awarded the national Baosteel Excellent Teachers. In addition, this course is named as the national and Liaoning provincial excellent course ( awarded in 2007), the national and Liaoning provincial high-quality resource sharing curriculum ( awarded in 2013), national bilingual demonstration course ( awarded in 2010), the first batch of national brand courses in English teaching ( awarded in 2013). It has been one of the excellent courses of DUT since 2005.

Main Achievements

1. Achievements of curriculum construction

(1) Excellent course of national and Liaoning province

"Descriptive geometry and engineering drawing" was awarded the Liaoning Provincial and national excellent courses in 2007. The goal of course construction is to cultivate the engineering quality of students by hybrid learning approaches in many ways, which lay the foundation of Problem-solving capability in engineering domain for the follow-up courses. Meanwhile, integrate innovative thinking and practice ability, scientific moral, professional and cooperation spirit into the teaching and learning process reasonably and naturally.

(2) High-quality resource sharing course of national and Liaoning province

High-quality resource sharing course of national and Liaoning province was awarded in 2013. With the guidance of teaching philosophy that 'teach a man to fish' and advance with the times, we strive to improve and consummate teaching content and resources. Teachers are committed to cultivate students¡¯ ability of learning and development during imparting knowledge.

(3) National bilingual demonstration courses

The national bilingual demonstration class was awarded in 2010. It is the first bilingual demonstration class of engineering graphics in our country. This course focuses on the teaching method of heuristic and practice, and implements teaching approach of case teaching and independent project learning. With closely related to modern drawing skills, national standards, advanced design methods and professional needs, a new teaching method has been formed that balance basic training, modern design skills and innovation consciousness of teaching methods in engineering graphics. Students can benefit very much from our course.

(4) National English brand course for international students

"Engineering graphics" won the award of the first batch of national English brand course for international students in 2013. The curricula and schedules keep up with the international first-class universities. Based on the 100% English teaching environment, students¡¯ professional abilities are cultivated throughout the course of study, meanwhile students' international outlook is broadened largely.

2. Achievements on teaching research

Teaching and research group explores the cognitive law in engineering graphics, break through restrictions from traditional teaching contents and methods, implement multi-angle, multi-directional optimization and reorganization of course content, apply modern teaching means scientifically and rationally, finally achieve human-machine coordination in teaching activity. ¡°Research on the teaching innovation and construction of stereoscopic teaching material in descriptive geometry and mechanical drawing course¡± get the first prize of Liaoning Provincial teaching achievement award in 2005.

¡°Teaching innovation and practice of engineering drawing based on modern educational theory and modern design technology¡± get the third prize of Liaoning Provincial teaching achievement award and the first prize of DUT teaching achievements award in 2012. On the premise of completely changing the teaching concept, this achievement solves several key problems relating to the quality of talent training on course level.
